Thanks for this! I've tried to follow the lifestyle of "dwell daily in the Word and prayer - withdraw weekly from regular activities - abandon annually many/most normal responsibilities." Still trying to figure out a hobby unrelated to my work!

I've been thinking about this and started piano lessons last week. It uses a different part of my brain and is something that I don't expect to be wonderful at -- I just like it. Thanks for your thoughts, and I appreciate you responding!

I'm getting ready to start piano lessons with my daughter too. I tried the guitar in the pandemic, but my mind just doesn't work like that. There is something about giving yourself to a different discipline that helps to unlock a different part of your internal genius

I appreciate the story telling delivery with examples of practical actions you provided to exercise rest. It is a rebellion, countercultural! Praise God for speaking through you. Keep going!

Did you rest today?

Unfortunately not today. But tomorrow, BIG REST.

"Rest is most fundamentally a form of rebellion. It resists the notion that we are the ones responsible for keeping the world spinning." Such a good reminder.

Reminds me of Psalm 131: "O Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Isreal, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore."

Most of the days I struggle with being overwhelmed with all the things 'too great and too marvelous for me' as if I can solve the worlds issues or 'keep the world spinning'. Sometimes what is truly restful for me during the day is to be reminded Christ uphold the universe by the word of his power and I can do my work, routines, enjoy a cup of coffee, etc and know, 'Man Im glad God's in control.'

Thanks for sharing!!

I can tell you I should be drinking Portrait!

There are two that I have had. Both local to myself here in Charleston, SC. One is Springbok the other is from Charleston Coffee Roasters.

I need to buy some from Portrait though! My brother-in-law and I bond over coffee, should buy some and enjoy with him!
