Thanks for this! I've tried to follow the lifestyle of "dwell daily in the Word and prayer - withdraw weekly from regular activities - abandon annually many/most normal responsibilities." Still trying to figure out a hobby unrelated to my work!
I appreciate the story telling delivery with examples of practical actions you provided to exercise rest. It is a rebellion, countercultural! Praise God for speaking through you. Keep going!
"Rest is most fundamentally a form of rebellion. It resists the notion that we are the ones responsible for keeping the world spinning." Such a good reminder.
Reminds me of Psalm 131: "O Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Isreal, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore."
Most of the days I struggle with being overwhelmed with all the things 'too great and too marvelous for me' as if I can solve the worlds issues or 'keep the world spinning'. Sometimes what is truly restful for me during the day is to be reminded Christ uphold the universe by the word of his power and I can do my work, routines, enjoy a cup of coffee, etc and know, 'Man Im glad God's in control.'
You ARE more than what you DO

I love this! Looking forward to hearing more from you through this medium.
Thanks, John! Just the reminder I needed today.
